"Karch" Kiraly is a volleyball player, coach and broadcaster. In his senior year Kiraly's high school team went undefeated, winning CIF SS by defeating Laguna Beach High School in the title game in 1978, and Kiraly was voted Sectional Player of the Year.
He played college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins, where his teams won three national championships under head coach Al Scates. In the 1980s he was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. As of 2021, Kiraly is the only player (man or woman) to have won Olympic gold medals in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. Also as of 2021, Kiraly is currently the head coach of the United States women's national volleyball team.
Kiraly has worked as a broadcaster for ESPN, and provided color commentary for the AVP on NBC broadcasts. Kiraly worked as an analyst for NBC Sports during their coverage of the beach volleyball competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics
