Cobi Jones emerged as a talented player in college making the UCLA soccer team as a non-scholarship player and ultimately becoming one of its most successful soccer players.
Jones was a midfielder from 1994 until 2007, starting his career in England with Premier League club Coventry City before playing for Brazilian side Vasco da Gama. He is one of a significant group of American national team stars who returned from overseas to aid the then new MLS in 1996. At the time of his retirement, Jones was the all-time leader in caps for the United States Men's National Team (USMNT) and is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Following retirement, Jones served as an assistant coach with the LA Galaxy (where he played for 11 years) for two seasons.
In 2017, he joined City Of Angels FC as Director Of Football. As of 2020, he was working an analyst for the Los Angeles Galaxy on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. He has also commentated for Fox Sports, BeIN Sports, and the Pac-12 Network.
