Frank Beamer first coached at Murray State before taking his legendary position at Virginia Tech. He was one of the longest tenured active coaches in NCAA Division I FBS and at the time of his retirement he was the winningest active D1 Head Football Coach. He won 280 college football games.
In late 2015 shortly after announcing his retirement Beamer signed an eight-year contract with Virginia Tech, serving as a special assistant to Whit Babcock, director of athletics at Virginia Tech.
