Gregg Popovich started his NBA coaching career as an Assistant Coach for the San Antonio Spurs in 1987 then the Golden State Warriors in 1992. Popovich returned to the Spurs in 1994 as the General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations. At the start of the 1996-97 season the Spurs started off 3-15 which led Popovich to replace the Head Coach with himself. At the end of the season they had acquired the first overall pick when they drafted NBA great Tim Duncan. The following season Greg Popovich coached the Spurs to his first NBA Championship.
Greg Popovich has had a long, successful, and consistant career that has solidified him as one of the best coaches of all time. His success incliudes multiple Coach of the Year Awards and multiple NBA Championships.
