Doc Rivers is a former professional basketball coach and player. He played as a point guard for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, and was known for his defense, a trait that has carried over into his coaching. Rivers was an NBA All-Star in 1988.
Rivers was named the 2000 NBA Coach of the Year in his first season as a head coach with the Orlando Magic, and would go on to coach them for 4 more years. After, he won an NBA championship with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett as head coach of the Boston Celtics in 2008.He would coach their from 2004 to 2013, appearing twice in the NBA finals.From there he would go on to coach the Clippers, a team oozing with potential with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Deandre Jordan all in their primes. Lob city would never end up winning a championship, although they had mutiple post season appearnces. After, Rivers served as head coach for the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, earning the number 1 record in the eastern conference for the 2021 NBA regular season. AS of 2021, River's is on the top 10 list of all-time coaching wins.
Rivers is a member of the National Advisory Board for Positive Coaching Alliance, a national non-profit organization that helps student-athletes and their coaches.
