Brooke Bennett is one of America’s most accomplished female swimmers. She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She would go on to swim freestyle in the Olympics in her prime.
She is a three-time Olympic Gold medalist. She competed in 1996 and 2000 Olympics, as well as the 1998 World Aquatic Championship. She won gold in the 800 in the 1996 and 2000. She won the 400 along with the 800 in 2000.
Her attempt for a third straight Olympic appearance fell short in 2004, following operations on both of her shoulders in 2001. She finished third in the 800-meter freestyle. The Tampa Tribune reported in December 2005 that Bennett was planning an Olympic comeback in 2008.
