The team, established by Ned Irish in 1946, was one of the founding members of the BAA which became the NBA after merging with rival NBL in 1949. The Knicks players and coaches include some of the greatest of all-time in Coach Pat Riley, Patrick Ewing, Willis Reed, Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Carmelo Anthony and many other fan favorites including John Starks, Charles Oakley, Larry Johnson and Allan Houston to name a few.
